Predator Boats

Predator Boats is a subsidiary of Douglas Marine Limited, a company owned and run by boating-building specialists and sea angling enthusiasts.

Ray Jackson

Ray is a chartered engineer who has had a life-long passion for boats and the sea. As a teenager he raced sailing dinghies, mostly on the North Sea, sailing out of Hartlepool on the North East coast.  Later, as a young father, he and his family cruised the canals and rivers of Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire, before extending their cruising to the coastal waters of the North Sea, sailing out of the Humber and the Wash.  As an RYA qualified skipper, he now cruises the Irish Sea and, when he can, the west coast of Scotland.  Ray is also a keen angler, enjoying both sea fishing and freshwater fishing, when time permits!

Ray and his wife, Chris, established Douglas Marine Limited in 1999 to purchase and run Douglas Boatyard, where sea-going boats have been built and repaired for over 100 years.  Predator Boats was established around four years later with the launch of the Predator 160, on which the best-selling Predator 165 Sea Angler is based.

Dave Steele

Dave has been a keen boat angler for as long as he can remember and has fished competitively and for pleasure all over the world.  Over the years, he has owned a wide range of sea fishing boats and is keen to share his experience with customers new and old.

In 1978 he established a successful boat dealership that specialised in both new and second hand sea fishing boats.  This success eventually led to the development of the "Steele Marine Sea Hunter 450", a superb entry-level sea angling boat that was developed in partnership with Predator Boats to incorporate their unique "lifering" of built-in buoyancy, making it one of the safest trailable fishing boats in its class.

Early in 2010, Dave joined Predator Boats as a director and shareholder.  And Dave has brought a great deal to the company.  His extensive knowledge of sea fishing boats and of boat fishing techniques will help Predator Boats to develop a range of fishing boats that will be second to none.

John  Clayton

John has been a boating enthusiast since his childhood and he has shared his enthusiasm for boats as a leader in the Sea Cadets since 1984, at one time teaching boat handling as an RYA Power Boat Instructor.  John is still heavily involved in the Sea Cadets and continues to teach boating skills as well as maintaining the unit's twelve boats of various types.

Around twelve years ago, John decided to make a career out of his love for boats by joining Character Boats as a boat builder.  Since then he has worked full time building and repairing grp boats and he is now Production Director of Predator Boats.

A Warm Welcome

Ray, Dave, Chris and John would like to extend a warm invitation to you to visit Douglas Boatyard and see for yourself the quality of the boats we build. Only then will you fully understand what we mean when we say, "Designed to Perform. Built to Last."
